Hypro Marine – Suppliers to the RNLI

Sep 24, 2008

Hypro Marine has supplied steering systems to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) for more than 25 years on existing Arun, Tyne, Mersey and Atlantic lifeboats, continuing more recently with the Severn and Trent Classes.

Meanwhile, development is ongoing with the RNLI for its latest generation of offshore lifeboat, the Tamar. For the Tamar, Hypro Marine not only supply the steering but also the hydraulic equipment for trim plane and mast operation, with a custom designed centralised ring main hydraulic system. This is supplied to control bow thrust, capstan winches, bilge and fire pumps, engine room fan, air conditioning compressor and transom door operation. It is designed to provide crossover redundancy between main engine hydraulic supplies in emergency conditions.

All lifeboats need to provide immediate response in control and manoeuverability, with a high level of reliability necessary for them to meet the extreme demands of their unique lifesaving service.

Hypro Marine is proud to be associated with the RNLI charity in helping to meet these requirements.

The RNLI is the charity that provides a 24-hour lifesaving service around the UK and Republic of Ireland. Our lifeboat service in the UK receives no government funding.
